Solitary — David Frazier

A cell I'm in
Walls of stone surround me.
In solitary.
Alone.
Darkness envelopes me.
A thread of light shines through
To the dirty floor.
Illuminates cockroaches crawling.
Snatching one up
Placed into my mouth.
Chewing, eating, I puke.
Need something to maintain
My strength.
So hungry I'd consume anything.
Eaten awful things to survive
Here in solitary.
Suddenly the door flies open
Light erases the darkness within.
A ebony figure holds a hose,
Water powerful and ice cold.
Drenches me and my stinking clothes.
Floor slippery and damp.
I fall into oblivion,
Hell is dark, silent, and waterlogged.
Filled with cockroaches and vermin.
You eat one and one eats you.
As you slowly go insane
Alone.
