Don’t Think Too Much- Mallory Ewer-Speck

It’s a long drive they used to say
And who knows if it’s true.
But I’d say, if anything,
it’s longer if you’re thinking.
Keep in mind that the past
does not exist.
Neither does the future.

Yes, that one blindsided me
one Saturday afternoon
driving in the car with Kieran.
Regurgitated it
from his pot-smoking
English teacher.

Don’t dream, and
don’t put up those
Hallmark
“Live Your Life”
“Dream & Breath”
magnets on your refrigerator.

Don’t worry that your thoughts
make you younger
than you actually are.

Don’t worry that you worry
that you are the only one
who worries
about living a mediocre life.

Also, don’t panic when you
can’t feel your limbs.

They really are quite unnecessary
except maybe
for folding laundry.
