I am the bullet
and you are the chamber
and the firing pin
that strikes the ignition cap
and sparks the reaction
which ends with me lodged
into a wall having missed
or in the bulls-eye center
of a silhouetted target
just like the first time we met
and our hands brushed together
as we reached for the same
copy of a Fitzgerald book
on the summer discount rack
and after we exchanged numbers
I didn’t know if your aim
wavered from the end of an out-stretched
arm or if your sights were dead-on.
